Climate Change Institute Uganda Deepening Understanding of Climate Change and Its Impacts in Schools

Under Earth Initiative Project with Funding from SGRE, we are deepening the understanding of climate change by holding sensitization seminars in schools. This gives young pupils and students a deeper understanding of the big elephant on the block that has often made headlines worldwide. This builds the pupil's capacity to better prepare for the change consequences. Schools are too encouraged to come up with tree planting projects in their compounds.

Increasing Awareness Among Farmers About Climate Change Impacts, Mitigation, and Adaptation Strategies

Climate Change Institute Uganda deepening understanding among smallholder farmers in Kyampisi Sub-count, Mukono District-Central Uganda. The Earth Initiative project one of the objectives is to increase awareness about climate change impacts mitigation and adaptation strategy. With belief that the increased knowledge will improve their response mechanisms through better preparedness strategies. This would support their improved resilience, especially in terms of livelihoods thus able to cushion shocks and stresses caused by climate change.

CCIU with Funding from SGRE is implementing one year project called Earth Initiative Project with major project goal of “promoting less carbon emission farming practices and carbon reduction technologies in community. Under the project farmers are being trained on how to make Biochar an organic fertilizer that supports production and productivity of crops. This reduces the acreage of land cleared to support livelihoods of household, this supports the continued functionality of natural ecosystems including rainfall formation. Additionally, biochar being it made from local home residues got from coffee harvests becomes affordable by most small-scale farmers.
